We are a year-round nursery, closing only for a week over Christmas and on bank holidays. For more information on session prices, head over to our 'Fees' page.
We approach childcare with an extremely caring, empathetic manner. We encourage children of all ages to explore the nursery alongside siblings and friends of mixed ages.
We strongly believe that children do not need to be taught, but rather that they need to be developed through inspiring, child-led play.
Every child is unique, with their own interests and strengths, and so they develop best when given the freedom to take charge of their own learning. By surrounding your child’s absorbent mind with inspiring, versatile resources and skillful role models, your child’s play will be nurtured and extended to build them into confident, curious individuals.
We also love to go out exploring. We visit the city farm, the theatre, woods, duck ponds, parks, local shops and anywhere else that piques our interests! At least once a week we visit a local care home for older people. We really immerse ourselves in the local community.
Midford Road Nursery offers a delightful, intimate space to families, welcoming babies right through to children who are about to start school. Our home-from-home learning environment is designed to feel like a relaxed, nurturing place to allow the children to feel at ease and comfortable.
Our nursery is set over two floors. Upstairs is the baby base, a calm, cosy space for up to six children aged from 0 to 2. Here children can explore a range of resources with a focus on sensory play. You can also find our kitchen/office on this floor.
Downstairs, we have two rooms. The smaller is the toddler base for up to eight 2 to 3 year olds. This room has a construction and small world theme to allow them to engineer and build all kinds of creations. The larger room is the preschool base for up to sixteen 3 to 5 year olds. This room has a fantastic art area with a variety of creative materials and a large role play space for the children to explore a variety of emotions, boundaries and roles through imaginative play.
These bases provide a space for each age group to come together for registration, meal times and for age-targeted, focused activities. However, we believe that allowing all age groups to free play together between all the rooms is really beneficial for everyone and so the majority of our day is spent in mixed, free-flow play.
Double doors lead from the preschool base outside to our lovely little garden, small but perfectly formed! These doors are open all day to allow the children free-flow access. Here we have a large sand pit, water play, a mud kitchen, construction materials and lots of other resources for fantastic outdoor play. We have a gate that leads directly onto a large playing field which we use sports, parties, picnics and more.
The nurseries were set up by Amy, a mother of three, a wife, a teacher, a charity worker, a pet owner and a passionate nursery owner.
Amy believes that each child should be listened to and develop their own interests and skills at a pace that is led by them. That all children are unique and need time to develop into the best version of themselves with patience and the support from grown-ups who listen. This is what we aim to provide at our nurseries.
We believe that from our careful observations of the children at play and our gentle, sensitive support our children develop a confidence that prepares them for school and the wider society. Our children also develop a deep curiosity about the world and what they can create within it.
